Purpose

How to force Exchange 2007/2010 to show the sender display name as it saved in the Global Address List?
Example:
Your Exchange server has an accepted Domain named "domain.com" that is your own e-mail domain. Your internal users have SMTP addresses like JDoe@domain.com. There exists an external person that shown in the GAL as "Chief of ZZZ European Department" <chiefofeurobranch@externaldomain.com>. When any internal user receives a message from that person, the From field contains: "Big Boss" <chiefofeurobranch@externaldomain.com>. "Big Boss" is a display name of the sender as it set on his side. But you'd like to see there "Chief of ZZZ European Department" <chiefofeurobranch@externaldomain.com> as he is recorded in your GAL!

Resolvac utility implements this functionality.

The application is a custom transport agent.

Current version: 1.0.0.1
This version can work only on Exchange 2007 SP1 with Update Rollup 4 or a later update rollup/Service Pack installed.

Installation

On your Exchange 2007/2010 Hub Transport Server or Edge server computer:
1. Select (or create) a user account that is a member of the local Administrators, Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups.
2. Log on as that user.
3. Create C:\Program Files\Resolvac\ directory.
4. Download Resolvac-Demo.zip archive file to C:\Program Files\Resolvac\ directory and extract all files.
5. Start a command prompt. If you are running Exchange 2007, navigate to C:\Program Files\Resolvac\Ex2007\ directory.
If you are running Exchange 2010, navigate to C:\Program Files\Resolvac\Ex2010\ directory.
6. From the command prompt run install.bat.

Testing

1. Let's assume you has external e-mail address "John Doe" <jdoe@yahoo.com>. Run Exchange Management Console and select Recipient Configuration > Mail Contact. In Actions pane click New Mail Contact... Fill out the fields. Place "MeOnYahoo" to the Name field. Click New button to create a contact.
2. From your Yahoo account send a message to your Exchange address. Open Outlook and make sure that the From address in the message you have just received is "MeOnYahoo" <jdoe@yahoo.com>.

We have tested Resolvac on Exchange 2007 64 bit SP1 with Update Rollup 4 (a single server that plays Hub Transport, Client Access and Mailbox roles) on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP1.
The program also has been tested on Exchange 2010 64 bit SP1 on Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition SP2.

Limitations

Version 1.0.0.1 of Resolvac for Exchange 2007/2010 application can work only on Exchange 2007 SP1 with Update Rollup 4 or a later update rollup installed.
